Ray Ford may be best known for his stunning stylized birds which he hand-carved (one at a time) from 1973 – 1988, but at 92 years old, he is still creating new work. Dealing with issues of aging (his hands feel numb) which makes it much harder for him to work on his art, but he still adores doing it. Ford produces about one sculpture a week, which is a fraction of what he once used to turn out. He has been retired for the past twenty-five years and now he can take his time with each one of his carefully crafted creations. To this day, he works seven days a week, six hours a day, and loves every minute of it. “I just finished a wineglass out of wood with a free form, carved stem. The stem looks very organic like a branch of a tree. I am also working on a piece I am calling ‘Alien,’” said Ford.
